Beethoven's Cellists is the culmination of a VC2 passion project centered around his five cello sonatas. These sonatas are at the very core of the cello repertoire, and if not for their creation the cello would not occupy the musical space it does today.

The sonatas were made possible by the significant influence of several cellists who were close to Beethoven - cellists who not only premiered his works, but with whom he shared deep friendships.

This album is centred around five brand new works, commissioned by VC2. Each is written by a Canadian cellist-composer, and inspired by one of the five sonatas.
